The Orlu Political Consultative Assembly, alongside the South-East Liberation Front, South-East Political Agenda, Organisation of Equity for South-East, and South-East Professionals in Politics, have asked the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to zone the position of the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly to the South-East.

At a joint press conference on Thursday, the groups said zoning the position of the next Senate President to the region would address the issue of exclusion of the Igbo people in the central government.

The National President, Orlu Political Consultative Assembly, Rex Anunobi, said the APC had to look for somebody who had no case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from the South-East zone to be the next Senate President.

Anunobi said the APC should strongly consider Senator-elect Osita Izunaso from Imo West for the position of Senate President.

He said,

“We met, and particular interest was taken in the constitution of the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, especially the position of the Senate President.

“It was, therefore, unanimously agreed that the position of the Senate President should be zoned to the South-East in order to ensure ethnic balancing, inclusiveness, and to address the manifest marginalisation of the zone.

“It is the considered opinion of OPOCA and other CSOs in the zone that Osita Izunaso, the Senator-elect for Imo West, is best suited for the position of Senate President. Izunaso is the most ranking of all the other senators from the zone, having been a member of the House of Representatives in this current democratic outing that started in 1999, not during the military regime. He is also a former senator.”
