APC crisis: Modu Sheriff visits National Secretariat

Former factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party now chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, on Thursday stormed the APC National Secretariat

Sheriff was driven into the party secretariat, in a black G-wagon at about 04:15 pm went upstairs to meet with some members of the APC caretaker committee.

He emerged after a few minutes but declined to respond to questions from reporters when they approached him.

Although his mission to the APC Headquarters is still shrouded in secrecy, it was gathered that his visit may be connected to his interest in having a say in how the party is run especially in the North East zone.

Sheriff served for two terms as governor of Borno State and also served as Senator.

He was a founding member of the APC but left following disagreements with his successor, Kashim Shettima, and APC leaders at the national level.

The recently inaugurated Chairman, APC Caretaker/ Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni is expected to conduct the party’s national convention later this year.

A chieftain of the party, Dagogo Fubara, who is seeking to contest for the position of National Youth Leader, welcomed what he referred to as interest being shown by party members from the north in the chairmanship position in the party.

He said, “This would put paid to speculation that the north is keen on holding on to the Presidency. If the north produces the National chairman of the party who will most likely be there for four years, it means the south will naturally produce our presidential candidate which is good for the party.”
