The Lagos State Police Command has arrested seven suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity for attacking a vigilante group, the Agbekoya, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
It was gathered that the suspects, Abolaji Arbayo, Josiah Offem, Oluwapelumi Oyeyinka, Lamidi Taofeeq, Ahmed Shittu, Zainab Nurudeen and Rabiu Ganiyu, had on Saturday attacked the vigilante group in a reprisal for the ****** on one of their members.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects inflicted machetes cuts and gunshot injuries on members of the group.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspects were arrested around 2pm on Saturday by policemen from the Imota Division.
He stated, “The suspected cultists arrested are Abolaji Arbayo, Josiah Offem, Oluwapelumi Oyeyinka, Lamidi Taofeeq, Ahmed Shittu (driver of their operational vehicle), Zainab Nurudeen (who sources for guns to operate) and Rabiu Ganiyu. Others, who were in possession of weapons, fled the scene on sighting the police.
“Items recovered from them included machetes, some charms and one green paragon bus with number plate Lagos APP 600 XA that was used by the suspects for their operation.”
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, for proper investigation so as to send a signal to other members of the group.
“The CP, Hakeem Odumosu, therefore, ordered the Department of Operations to reduce his directives on anti-crime strategies of the command into a signal and circulate same to all police stations and formations in the command for strict compliance with immediate effect,” Adejobi added.
