It is no longer news that many Nigerian politicians and political god father have now turned their state into a personal property and inheritance thereby installing their allies, aide and family members in most political, official and unofficial appointments.

Mrs Iyabo Tinubu Ojo is the daughter of former governor of Lagos and All progressives Congress national leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu (The jagaban Borgu of Lagos).

No doubt Tinubu is the landlord of Lagos, political godfather and political big weight behind major appointments in the states.

There are speculations he must have influenced the imposition of his daughter Iyabo Tinubu OJO has the iyaloja that is female leader of all market traders in Nigeria.

There was no formal process to the appointments of the iyaloja.

In fact Mrs Iyabo Tinubu Ojo can be said to have been imposed and installed as the female market leader in Lagos.

Rumors had it that on the day of her installation, all major market were closed in Lagos.

Recently, about 18 trade unions in computer village, Ikeja Lagos protested the illegal imposition of fees, levies on them.

Mrs Iyabo Tinubu Ojo had forcefully instructed all babalojas and iyalojas of all major market to impose the new fees and levies.

From hawkers to shop owners to store keepers and all share holders in Lagos market have received new levies after paying VAT, corporate tax and local governments levies.

There is no legal backing to this fees.

I thought federal, state and local governments are the only ones allowed to take tax and levies but I don’t understand why the iyaloja of Lagos imposed this new levy and what it will be accounted for.

The money these people charge road side traders is so Alarming. It is worthy to mention that under the coronavirus pandemic.

Some people have not worked for the last three months and marketers are complaining as their is no fund in circulation.

In a sane world government and agencies are offering tax holiday and other incentives.

Naturally traders have been paying but when it’s becoming an extortion, the people will resist and exploitation as well as extortion does not encourage business growth.
