Shortly after his disqualification from contesting the gubernatorial election under the flagship of the All progressive Congress (APC).
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has formally announced his decision to resign his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress because he has refused to subscribe to Godfatherism of Adams Oshiomole in the state.
It turns out Obaseki next political love is to join the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
Unlike Ambode, who was regarded as a puppet governor that could not say no godfatherism in Lagos subject to the control of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the landlord of Lagos.
Recollect that Obaseki was disqualified on the basis of certification, it is also worthy to mention that the so called discrepancies in the certificate could be corrected simply by an affidavit of the courts which ordinarily should do but the APC national structure is bent on denying the incumbent governor a second term bid under it party structure belongs to The Godfather’s instead of the governor which is a setback to democracy.
There are speculations that Obaseki has the support of the majority members of the house of assembly, commissioners as well as the state party structure and if the news of his defection are anything to go by, he may be giving the APC a tough fight for the gubernatorial seat.
Its so alarming that godfathers wouldn’t let governors do their job accordingly. This is against what Godwin Obaseki stands for and hence why he might dump APC.
Ambode despite serving as the accountant general of Lagos state still failed to hijack the structure of the party from the Almighty Jagaban.
Kudos ought be giving to Obaseki for standing against impunity and the greatest setback of democracy which is godfatherism he chose to pick his fight and I see the fight to be a very smart fight thou he knows he doesn’t have the greatest chance because he is not in the ruling party but then it’s best to die brave than to die a coward.
Let’s watch while the drama unfolds.
