A Nigerian lady, identified as Elohor Okudu, tells how her husband refused to help her own family members after he paid almost N580k bride price.

The story was shared by a Twitter user identified as @SmartAtuadi. The lady is looking for professional advice as the problem worries her.

She wrote: “I got married 8 months ago, my husband earns 70,000 monthly while I don’t have a job yet, during our wedding ceremony my husband spent about 580,000 on the list given to him for the trading wedding, I persuaded my parents to reduce the list but they said it was a must and a tradition.

“He was able to get the money bag because I didn’t work and couldn’t help financially. After the marriage I suggested that he should send something to my parents every month, as he does to his parents, but to my surprise the answer he gave me was that he doesn’t owe my parents anything, that they have collected everything they are entitled to from him.

At first I was not angry about this until my younger brother wanted to get married and his bride’s family gave him a list of things to do for the traditional wedding, which was 400,000.

“My father then shared the costs and told my husband to contribute 120,000 for my brother’s wedding, but to my surprise my husband said no and told me that my family had collected everything they wanted during our wedding and that they should not ask him for financial support, which made me angry and I told him that he was not responsible for this.

“Since then we have been living like strangers in the house, he doesn’t speak to me, he just keeps to himself, and I have never seen him like this, not even in our two years of courtship. Please our Mamas and Papas kindly advise me what to do to take advantage of the situation, I am between my husband and my family.
