While the fate of embattled All Progressive Congress National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole remains in limbo, the party’s National Executive Committee has reportedly drawn up plans to remove him from the party’s bosom at a meeting scheduled for Thursday.
A reliable source told Saharan reporters on Wednesday that many APC governors have withdrawn their support for Oshiomhole given the cracks in the party.
The crisis, which has already spilled over to some states currently controlled by the APC, is likely to have a negative impact on its efforts to remain in power at the federal level in 2023 if the problems are not addressed immediately.
Among the Oshiomhole offences that the NEC might consider is its inability to convene NEC meetings once every three months, as provided for in Article 35 of the party’s constitution.
It was found that Oshiomhole had convened NEC meetings only twice since 2018, a gross violation of the Party’s laws.
It was also found that he had paid N2 million per month to each member of the National Labour Committee, contrary to the dictates of the party’s statutes.
The source also revealed that Oshiomhole did not give proper account of the funds realized during the 2019 parliamentary elections, which upset some top members of the APC.
He said: “The party’s annual budget must be approved by the NEC. He (Oshiomhole) has run away not to account for the proceeds from the nomination and expression of interest forms sold in 2019.
“He knows that the NEC will ask about the party’s funding and expenses, and therefore he has refused to call an NEC meeting.
“The NEC meeting has been coming up for a long time, and only the NEC can solve the crisis we have in the party.
“Since 2018, he has called an NEC meeting only twice. LOOK AT IT
The results also showed that Abiola Ajimobi, a former governor of Oyo State who was preferred as national chairman after a court recently ordered the removal of Oshiomhole, was not a product of the Convention.
He was nominated from the southwest to replace Otunba Niyi Adebayo, who was given a ministerial post.
“You cannot be an officer of the party without having been elected, even if there was no election, there must be confirmation of the members.
“Getting Ajimobi out of his zone is not the end result, all APC members must gather and accept it.
“Therefore, the court recognized Victor Giadom because he is a product of a convention. Ajimobi is not an elected official, and the nomination must be ratified.
“Giadom promised to proceed with the NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday at the Villa and insisted that he would reconvene the NEC meeting previously scheduled for March 17, 2020, but this was postponed.
The source added that an administrator committee could be set up with the mandate to manage the party’s affairs and organise a congress.
