ASUU negates the opening of Schools.
Academic staff union of Universities(ASUU) on Monday has warned the federal government of Nigerian against the opening of schools in the country.
According to ASUU, it is suicidal to open schools due to the Covid-19 rampaging the Country. This statement was issued by Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi who is ASUU national president.
Ogunyemi in a statement issued earlier today declared that it is suicidal to reopen schools now.
Although there are contrary comments from the public on these statements.
Some well-meaning Nigerians have commented that since Markets are open and worship centres are open in some states that it is safe to reopen the schools.
It has been over 100 days since schools nationwide have been ordered to be closed and all academic activities shut down.
It might be logical to close schools down but it should be also considered that other sectors of the economy such as aviation, transport and market have opened and are operating under NCDC regulations which is what should be demanded from the federal government.
Some comment from Students in Nigerian Universities expressed that ASUU should seek for capacity for E-learning and online tutorial instead of wasting an academic year to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
