A wedding in India turned out to be a coronavirus hot spot and killed the groom
who had a high fever and infected more than 100 guests because his family did not comply with his request to follow up the wedding ceremony.
According to the Hindustan Times, the man, a 30-year-old software engineer, had diarrhea and high fever before his wedding on June 15, but his family forced him to swallow a painkiller and perform the ceremony, which was attended by more than 360 people in Paliganj.
Groom dies after infecting over 100 wedding guests with coronavirus
48 hours later his condition worsened and he died on the way to hospital, according to the news agency. His body was quickly cremated without being tested for the coronavirus.
As a result of the man’s death, all of his close relatives were tested for the virus on June 19, and on June 15 it was confirmed that he was positive.
In a desperate attempt to prevent the spread of the disease, a camp was set up where samples were taken from the other participants. Of these, 86 tested positive, officials said on Tuesday.
The bride also tested negative for the virus.
“Although he felt uncomfortable until 14 June and wanted to postpone the wedding, family leaders on both sides advised against it, citing the enormous financial losses if preparations had to be cancelled,” a relative told the Hindustan Times.
Another relative who tested negative said no one suspected the groom had COVID-19.
“Since the rural areas are almost COVID-free, we were relaxed,” the relative told the news agency.
“On the day of the wedding, he had a high fever, which caused concern among his relatives, who “prayed that it was not a COVID infection,” the relative said.
“After taking paracetamol, he performed all functions before the wedding,” he added, referring to the brand name for over-the-counter paracetamol.
Municipal official Chiranjeev Pandey said: “Our first priority now is to prevent the infection and break the chain. We have sealed off parts of the neighbouring Meetha Kuan, Khagari and some parts of the suburban market place of Paliganj
