Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Danny Murphy has said it would be difficult for Manchester United to achieve anything big with Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen anchoring their midfield.
According to him, despite the Portuguese and the Swede, respectively, being wonderful midfielders and good passers of the ball, they are not defensive minded.
Manchester United are now just one point behind third-placed Newcastle United after they beat Bournemouth 3-0 in their last Premier League outing.
The Red started the season poorly, losing to Brighton and Brentford in their two games but has grown from strength to strength under Erik ten Hag.
However, Murphy believes that the Red Devils cannot win the Premier League or Champions League with the likes of Fernandes and Eriksen in charge of the midfield.
“Even though Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes are both wonderful, creative footballers – at top level football, to win Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues – you can’t have them in the same midfield and win the league. They’re not defensive-minded enough,” he told talkSPORT.
