Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has urged the Gunners to sign two players ‘immediately’ this January transfer window.
Merson also revealed his concern over the signing of Fabio Vieira for £34 million from Porto last summer.
Arsenal are keen to back their manager Mikel Arteta with more cash in January to sign new players in a bid to bolster his squad depth this second half of the campaign.
However, Merson wants the Premier League leaders to bring two new players to Emirates Stadium – one being Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk.
“I think Arsenal need two signings this January, they have got to go out and buy immediately,” Merson told the Daily Star.
“I watched them against Newcastle and they ran out of ideas. Don’t get me wrong, Newcastle defended really well and it was hard to break down, but you have got to be able to change it up.
“There were no fresh legs. They paid £34million for Fabio Vieira but still did not put him on. For me, that was the worrying thing.
“I would not just say they needed fresh legs, I would say fresh brains as well. There was no guile or differentiation.
“Arsenal need to set Shakhtar Donetsk a deadline with Mykhaylo Mudryk. They have offered £62 million and it should now be “take it or leave it” otherwise, the January transfer window will soon be over.”
