Supercopa: Why we lost 3-1 to Barcelona – Ancelotti

Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti has explained that his team lost 3-1 against Barcelona in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final because the Catalan club played better than Los Blancos.

Ancelotti watched as three goals from Gavi, Robert Lewandowski, and Pedri ensured Barcelona defeated Real Madrid.

Karim Benzema did score a late goal for Real Madrid at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Ancelotti said Real Madrid made mistakes against Xavi’s side.

The former Chelsea and Everton coach said, “Our mistakes determined the outcome of the game. We didn’t look after the ball and they scored two goals as a result. The game changed from there. It was a bad match for everyone, but it wasn’t down to a lack of spirit”.

He added, “In my mind, we don’t talk about humiliation, that is a bit too far. Sometimes in sports, you win and sometimes, you’re beaten. We lost a game against Barcelona like we beat them in La Liga. They played better and deserved it”.
