The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has arrested a 37-year-old man for being in possession of 26 pieces of 1,000 fake CFA francs.
The Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Corps in the state, CSC Adamu Shehu, made this known in a statement in Dutse on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Shehu said that the suspect, who lives in Bachirawa quarters in Kano State, was arrested after Malam Abdul’aziz Shehu and Hajiya Saratu Muhammad, all of Kazaure town, Kazaure Local Government Area, lodged complaint that the suspect allegedly sold fake CFA Franc amounting to N230,000 to them.
“One Suleman Habu ‘m’ aged 37 of Bachirawa Town, Kano State was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kazaure Town on alleged case of Cheating and Counterfeiting contrary to Sections 329 and 369 and punishable under sections 322 and 329 of the Penal Code Law CAP P3 VOL III law of Jigawa State,/; the statement read.
“The suspect was arrested on Thursday, 12th day of January, 2023 upon complaints lodged by one Abdul’aziz Shehu and Saratu Mohd at Kazaure Divisional office that he sold (exchanged) them fake Nigerien Currency (CFA Franc) amounting to N230,000. It was while they took the currency to be exchanged that they were told the money’s fake.
“The suspect confessed that he bought the money from one woman while on transit to Kazaure from Kano whom he said was in urgent need of money but has only foreign currency (Niger CFA), and offered to exchange it at a discounted rate.
“At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of Twenty Six (26) pieces of 1000 notes of Niger CFA equivalent to N338,000,”
The suspect will be charged to court after investigations were concluded, the spokesperson added.
