Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard has told the team to look at themselves in the mirror after their heavy defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The former Reds captain lamented how his former side went from two goals up to suffer a 5-2 defeat at home to the Spanish side,
Gerrard urged manager Jurgen Klopp to investigate the real cause of the heavy defeat, insisting that Liverpool are never defeated in such a manner at Anfield.
It turned out to be a nightmare for Liverpool who took an early 2-0 lead in the first half in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 but stumbled, leaving Los Blancos to score five goals and win with relative ease.
Gerrard, who captained the Reds to several Champions League game victories, revealed that his former side had been handed a reality check.
“I think it’s a reality check,” he said, according to the Liverpool Echo.
“Look, there’s got to be an inquest into why and how. I’m sure Jurgen will do that in the coming days. Liverpool don’t concede five goals here at Anfield, and if they do, it’s very rare.
“There’s gonna be a little bit of looking in the mirror, sure. It wasn’t good enough.”
