Barcelona captain, Sergio Busquets has suggested that Manchester United eliminated his team from the Europa League because the Red Devils are one of the best teams in the Premier League.
Busquets also pointed out that Barcelona are good in the league, but in Europe, they lack that little point, and Xavi’s men are angry over the outcome against Man United.
Man United qualified for the Europa League round of 16 stages after beating Barcelona 2-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday night, thanks to goals from Brazilian stars Fred and Antony.
Erik ten Hag’s side had drawn 2-2 with Barcelona in the first-leg play-off tie at Camp Nou last week, progressing to the last-16 on a 4-3 aggregate victory.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Busquets said, “In terms of spirit, it does take its toll. “We are angry, but the team is aware of where that comes from.
“We are good in the league, but in Europe, we lack that little point. We must aspire to win everything. We are on the right path, and I’m sure [this] won’t take its toll on the team.”
He added, “They have been different eliminations. “In the Champions League, a lot of things happened that were incredible. We were not good in some games.
“Today [Thursday] is different. This was a tie against one of the best teams in the English Premier League. Defeat could happen.”
