Former England and Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has said goalkeeper David De Gea is not the best footballer after he was left baffled by the Spaniard’s ‘strange’ performance against Real Betis in the Europa League round of 16 first leg last night.
Manchester United beat their opponents 4-1 at Old Trafford to take control of the tie ahead of next week’s second-leg tie in Spain.
The goal scorers were Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst, while Betis managed to put one back through Ayoze Pere.
On one occasion, De Gea received the ball back and drilled a pass straight into the feet of his opponent, Juamni, who picked out Perez inside the United’s box, and it nearly led to a goal as the ball hit the post and was cleared to safety.
“David isn’t the best footballer, let me put it that way. Very strange pass,” Scholes said on BT Sport while analysing the incident.
