Former AS Monaco striker, Victor Ikpeba has called on Chelsea, under the leadership of co-owner Todd Boehly, not to sack manager Graham Potter because the Blues have turned the corner.
There were calls for Boehly to sack Potter in February following Chelsea’s poor form of results in the Premier League.
Chelsea were only able to score one Premier League goal last month but have turned the corner with an aggregate win over two legs against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16 as well as victories over Leeds United and Leicester City in the domestic league.
Speaking on Monday Night Football broadcast by SuperSport, Ikpeba wants Potter to remain as Chelsea manager, adding that he needs time at Stamford Bridge.
Ikpeba said, “I think Graham Potter should remain as manager of Chelsea because they’ve turned the corner. What a relief for the fans.
“The Chelsea fans have suffered a lot in the past few weeks. The results have been diabolic with the quality of players they’ve with the money that they spent to bring these players to Chelsea.
“Three technically brilliant goals [against Leicester City]. We should not forget Kai Havertz’s touch from nowhere to score one of the goals. It is not easy to score that kind of goal in that situation.
“It just shows the approach to get to the next level. But bringing these qualities together takes time and I feel the manager needs time. Maybe he needs another season.”
