A French court has handed prison terms to two men for committing a burglary at the home of Paris Saint-Germain star Presnel Kimpembe last year.
The defendants, both 21, admitted their guilt but said they did not know they were entering the home of the France defender and 2018 World Cup winner in November 2022.
They said they only managed to enter one room of the house before trying to flee when they saw a caretaker approach.
They fell from a veranda, through which they had entered the property, after failing to steal jewellery and clothes, they told the court.
Their act was motivated by “money troubles”, they added, saying a third man had identified the site of the attempted burglary.
Kimpembe’s lawyer Yasmina Belmokhtar said the act was “a violation of privacy” and demanded a symbolic one euro ($1) in damages.
The men will be able to have their prison sentences of 10 and eight months respectively reduced and serve them at home while wearing an electronic tags, the court said.
