Former Liverpool man, Stan Collymore has told Manchester United to stop chasing after Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Instead, the former Premier League attacker wants the Red Devils to consider signing two Arsenal players, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka if the Red Devils are taken over by Qatari bidders.
All the efforts made by Manchester City to sign De Jong last summer proved abortive and the Dutch midfielder has again recently played down the prospect of moving to Old Trafford this summer.
Manchester are set to have renewed their interest in De Jong ahead of the summer transfer window, but Collymore feels that would be a wrong move for a club like the Red Devils..
Collymore told CaughtOffside: “Manchester United shouldn’t pursue players that clearly don’t want to move to their club.
“De Jong, every time he’s been asked about moving to Manchester United has pretty much said ‘no thanks’ – so just leave him alone and move on to alternative targets.
“If they get taken over, what’s stopping them from going in for Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard or Bukayo Saka in the summer?”
