Netherlands boss, Ronald Koeman has said that he cannot invite Manchester United target Jeremie Frimpong to the national team because the 22-year-old cannot defend.
Koeman slammed the player, saying he lacks the quality of tracking back and helping out in the defence.
The former Barcelona boss snubbed the player for their Euro 2024 qualifiers despite the former Celtic full-back being a key player Bayer Leverkusen.
The 22-year-old, who was part of Louis van Gaal’s squad to the World Cup, has also been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
But Koeman, who took over from van Gaal as Netherlands boss, has major concerns over his ability to defend.
“No Frimpong? This is because of the system that we play in,” Koeman told reporters during his press conference ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifying matches.
“He plays almost as a right winger. My right back should be able to defend well in the first place and I have my doubts about that.”
