Popular British presenter, Chris Kamara has revealed he once advised Jose Mourinho to sign Virgil van Dijk for Manchester United.
Liverpool won the race to sign Van Dijk, a top defender, in January 2018 in a deal worth £75m and it has proved to be money well spent.
The Netherlands international went on to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the English top flight and in the world.
He has helped the Reds win several titles, including the Premier League and Champions League.
And former Sky Sports reporter Kamara says he told former Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan boss, Mourinho to sign Van Dijk from Southamton during his reign at Manchester United and it appears the Portuguese boss was interested in a deal.
Kamara said that the legendary manager, Mourinho said Manchester United were not willing to spend such money to sign Van Dijk.
“I can exclusively reveal that I told Jose Mourinho to take Virgil van Dijk to Manchester United,” Kamara – who recently received a MBE – said on the Proper Football podcast.
“Jose said, ‘these lot [Man Utd] won’t give me the money for him’. And then Van Dijk went to Liverpool instead.”
