Former Arsenal player Martin Keown has said that the Gunners ‘played a part’ in Tottenham sacking of manager Antonio Conte on Sunday.
The Italian gaffer joined the north London side in November 2021 and was shown the exit door on Sunday following his explosive interview after Tottenham’s poor result against Southampton before the international break.
Prior to his dismissal, Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United, exited the Champions League to AC Milan in the round of sixteen and in the Premier League they blew a two-goal lead against bottom-club Southampton.
And the Arsenal legend feels the success of their rivals Arsenal this season has contributed to Spurs’ decision to sack the former Inter Milan, Juventus, Italy and Chelsea boss.
League leader, the Gunners are 20 points above fourth-placed Tottenham in the Premier League table 20 points with 10 games left.
“I think they should have kept him until the end of the season, no doubt,” Keown told talkSPORT.
“I think Arsenal have played a part.
“The fact that Arsenal are 20 points clear of Spurs and this time last year they were both in the run-in for the top-four places puts Spurs under enormous pressure.”
