A former Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has slammed Graham Potter over the English manager’s team selection.
Sherwood strongly believes that Potter’s team selection led to Chelsea’s 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.
The former manager noted that Potter’s decision hindered Reece James in the disappointing league defeat.
Ollie Watkins and John McGinn sealed the win for Unai Emery’s side at Stamford Bridge.
Potter fielded a three-man defence of Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Reece James against Villa.
He deployed James on the right side, while midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek played further forward.
Sherwood said that the former Brighton boss’ tactics did not allow James to play his normal attacking football from the right wing.
“It doesn’t help,” Sherwood condemned the team selection on Premier League Productions.
“I cannot understand why Reece James is not playing as a right wing-back.
“You’ve got [Benoit] Badiashile on the bench, why’s he not playing,” the former manager queries.
