Manchester United legend Gary Neville has slammed Liverpool defenders Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk following the Reds’ 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.

The former defender accused both backmen of ‘schoolboy’ defending against Arsenal in the first half of the all-important game for Arsenal.

Arsenal scored twice in the first half through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus with Mohamed Salah halving the deficit later on.

Jesus scored the second goal for Arsenal when he was left unmarked to head in Martinelli’s cross, with Alexander-Arnold at fault.

Van Dijk then went on to collide with Jesus on the touchline.

“You can defend them because they have some credit in the bank from their performances but it’s getting really difficult,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“Even on that one there, Trent doesn’t sprint back. Van Dijk’s idling across. Legging someone up. It’s schoolboy stuff.”
