Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard is set for a shock move to join his former international teammate, Vincent Kompany, at newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Kompany, who is currently the manager of Burnley, is keen on Hazard joining the club.
The Manchester City legend feels Hazard still possesses quality in the twilight of his career.
The report added that Burnley would use Kompany’s prior connection with Hazard in the national team to make their interest known.
Hazard has become surplus to requirements at Real Madrid. He has fallen out of favour with Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti at Santiago Bernabeu.
The 31-year-old has started just three of nine games across competitions for Los Blancos, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
Hazard’s contract with Real Madrid will expire in 2024, so he could be available on the cheap in the summer as Transfermarkt values the Belgian at as little as €5m.
