Real Madrid defender, Antonio Rudiger, has explained why he joined the club from Chelsea last summer.
Prior to Rudiger’s switch to Real Madrid, the Germany international had been linked with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
But he ended up joining the Spanish La Liga champions after his contract with Chelsea expired.
Speaking with Canal+Afrique, Rudiger opened up on his decision to choose Real Madrid over other clubs such as PSG and Barca.
“There were a lot of rumours when PSG came, it was something I wasn’t looking for. It is nothing against PSG, it is a beautiful club. But Real Madrid are Real Madrid,” Rudiger said.
“If you want to be on the winning side, you join Real Madrid.”
The centre-back added, “When I got an ACL injury in 2016, Florentino Pérez sent me a letter wishing me a speedy recovery. I could not believe it.
“The moment I knew I could go to Real Madrid was when I lifted the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea.”
