Two men were on Thursday arraigned before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged burglary, stealing and threat to life.

The defendants, Saheed Ajayi, 25, and Usman Abubakre, whose addresses were not provided, are being tried on three counts of breaking and entry, stealing, malicious damage and threat to life.

The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 9, at about 9:30 a.m. at Suve Whezume, Ilogbo-Eremi, Badagry, Lagos.

Adeosun alleged that the defendants broke into the complainant, John Obadija’s apartment with the intent to commit a felony.

He told the court that the defendants allegedly maliciously damaged the complainant’s property valued at N200,000.

“The defendants stole one plasma television valued at N115,000, property of Obadija.

“They also threatened the life of the complainant and members of his family.

“The offences committed are punishable under Sections 306, 287, 339 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr T.A Popoola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Popoola adjourned the case until May 31 for mention.
