Former Barcelona senator Jaume Llopis has said that the club will not be able to bring back PSG superstar Lionel Messi this summer.
Lionel has been heavily linked with a return to La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Messi’s contract at the French capital city club expires at the end of the season and with no success in their contract talks, Catalans are keen to bring back their superstar to Camp Nou.
The 2022 World Cup winner, who turns 35 in June, has not made his intention known as Barcelona are required to raise €200 million this summer to sign new players.
Llopis believed the Catalan giants are not capable of signing the Argentina icon.
“He will not come,” he told Radio Marca.
“[Messi rumours are] another smokescreen to cover up the club’s problems.
“They have [Barca] mortgaged their most important rights. They will have a debt of between €3,000 and €4,000 million; that is something impossible to pay back.”
