The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three members of a syndicate that specializes in tampering and stealing prepaid meters of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in various parts of Ondo State.
The Public Relations Officer of the corps in the state, ASC l Daniel Aidamenbor, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, May 4, 2023, said the suspects sold the stolen meters to unsuspecting members of the public.
“Following a sustained intelligence and the flagging of some reported stolen prepaid meters by the Corps and BEDC, one of the flagged stolen meters was recovered at the point of recharging it by the buyer,” he said.
“The statement of the buyer led to the arrest of Oladele kole, male,42years old at Potoki street opposite Idanre garage, Akure, Alimi Oluwasola, male, 39years old and Samuel Olumide, male, 52years old were both arrested at Oda road, Akure.
“Two members of the syndicate are presently at large and effort is on to apprehend them,”
“The suspects who already made confessional statements will be charged to court after the completion of investigation.”
