The 2022-23 season of the English Premier League is gradually coming to an end.
This weekend will be the 36th week, meaning that it’s now about two to three games before preparation for next season begins.
From Manchester to London, fixtures that will decide a lot of things across the table will be played.
What would be the five talking points?
1. Man Utd relinquishing 4th place to Liverpool? It’s just one point separating the two teams. Although the Red Devils have a game in hand. Only in February, Erik ten Hag’s men were regarded as title contenders.
However, March proved to be disastrous for the Red Devils. In a month, they were thrashed 7-0 at Liverpool, they failed to record a single goal in the league. They were beaten in their last two games to West Ham and Brighton and are up against Wolves this weekend.
2. Sneaky Liverpool: The Reds are now finding the next available space to sneak into the top four as Rio Ferdinand earlier predicted. Any slip from Manchester United in the next three games could prove costly for Erik ten Hag’s men. Liverpool were on the down side of the table with Chelsea but have left the Blues behind. Since their 2-2 draw with Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp’s side has gone on to win six straight games.
3. Masterful Man City: The Citizens are leading the way for others to follow as far as the Premier League is concerned. Arsenal were table toppers for the majority of the season. But even when the Gunners were eight to ten points ahead many pundits and EPL followers would not give the benefit of the doubt. They were confident City would win the league. The league is not over yet but City are now one point clear with a game in hand.
4. Man City vs Everton: Many football lovers and analysts are still wondering where Everton got the courage, determination and spirit to beat Brighton, one of the best teams in the top flight of English football this season 5-0 away from home last weekend.
It was a shocking result. But could this mean that the Toffees are back on their feet or just a one-off performance? Man City would be praying for the latter when both teams clash at the Goodison Park on Saturday. Everton may just be the spoiler of Man City’s party as they themselves are fighting their last battle to escape relegation.
