Arsenal’s hope of winning their first Premier League title since Arsene Wenger’s 2004 team ended on Saturday.
It all died completely after Mikel Arteta’s men fell 1-0 in the hands of Nottingham Forest and the defeat would mean that Manchester City have won the title again.
The Gunners needed Nottingham Forest and kept praying that Manchester City lost all their remaining three games but could not even fulfil their own side of the bargain.
Having watched Arsenal fall like a pack of cards, Manchester City players celebrated wildly as it was confirmed they are Premier League champions for a third consecutive campaign.
The Citizens wrapped up the title with three games to spare having won 11 top-flight matches in a row.
And they capitalised on Arsenal dropping points in recent weeks to return to the summit of the table.
City would have been crowned as champions if they had beaten Chelsea at the Etihad on Sunday.
But after the Gunners lost 1-0 away at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, City sealed the title without having to kick a ball.
The City squad, who anticipated the outcome, watched the clash together, with their reaction to the full-time whistle being filmed by their media team.
Sharing a video of their celebrations on Twitter, the players could be seen sitting down as they anxiously waited for the whistle to go.
And as referee Anthony Taylor sounded the end of the game, the players jumped for joy.
