Manchester City have tabled a £25 million bid to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Manager Pep Guardiola has already identified Kovacic as a signing to strengthen his midfield options and the Citizens have been working on a deal for several weeks.

Man City have agreed personal terms with the Croatia international but are yet to reach an agreement with Chelsea over a transfer fee for the player.

According to The Athletic, the reigning Premier League and Champions League holders have now submitted a £25million offer to Chelsea for Kovacic.

The report added that Guardiola has also been a long-term admirer of Kovacic since his time at Real Madrid.

Kovacic, meanwhile, has just a year left on his current contract with Chelsea and the Blues are keen to sell the 29-year-old this summer than see him leave Stamford Bridge for free next season.
