Chelsea are now looking at signing Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson after failing to sign Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.
Chelsea had agreed personal terms with Olise and activated his £35million release clause.
But Olise opted to sign a new four-year contract to remain at Palace beyond this summer, snubbing a move to Chelsea.
As a result, The Guardian is now reporting that Chelsea have added Johnson to their target list, with negotiations over a deal in the early stages.
Nottingham Forest value the Welsh forward at around £45m, but it is said the Blues may offer players in part exchange in order to bring the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will have to battle Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, who are also interested in signing Johnson.
