Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe has hailed Nick Pope’s goalkeeping heroics after his team’s Champions League 0-0 draw with AC Milan on Tuesday night.
AC Milan missed a string of chances to score in front of their own fans at San Siro with Pope making a number of saves during the Champions League tie.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Howe singled out Pope, saying the shot-stopper was outstanding against Milan.
He said, “I thought Nick was outstanding today.
“He was excellent against Brentford although he did not have a lot to do and his all-round game was at his highest level.
“It is no coincidence, two big displays and two clean sheets from him are absolutely crucial to us. He was a huge part of our success last year and no doubt he will be the same this year.”
Newcastle will now face Sheffield United in a Premier League tie on Sunday.
