The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe has arrested a 65-year-old man, Mohammed Baburam, who allegedly chained and starved his 40-year-old wife for one year in Potiskum.
The chained woman’s photos went viral on social media after concerned residents called for help for her.
Several human rights organizations soon got involved and the mother-of-four was immediately rescued.
Her husband was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The husband, who fed his wife only once a day, said following his arrest, that he chained her because she has mental health issues.
Doctors are already testing the woman to ascertain her health status after which the husband will be charged to court.
