Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has said he is not convinced Bruno Fernandes is enjoying being captain of the Premier League.

Neville has now claimed the Portugal midfielder might pass on the armband at the end of the season.

Fernandes was appointed skipper by manager Erik ten Hag in the summer after the Dutchman took the armband from Harry Maguire.

But the 29-year-old has faced criticism over his animated behaviour, with several fans and pundits, including United captain Roy Keane, calling for him to be replaced.

Speaking to Webby & O’Neill, Neville said: “I can see exactly where Roy is coming from because, honestly, I think if you said to Bruno at this moment in time, “Would you want to be captain?” [he would say no].

“He’s a brilliant player; I think Roy said on Sunday that he’s an absolutely fantastic player. But, for me, it feels like he’s trying to be everything and everybody on the pitch and he carries that emotion with him.”
