Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has identified Kobbie Mainoo as the Red Devils star Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola would want in his team.
Neville, who said this while giving his verdict about Mainoo’s display after Man United’s Premier League 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday at Goodison Park, said the 18-year-old midfielder looks like a Man City player.
Recall that Mainoo was handed his first-ever Premier League start on Sunday as Man United beat Everton, thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
He gave an impressive display at the heart of Man United’s midfield, with captain Bruno Fernandes praising him as the team’s Man of the Match after the game.
“He [Mainoo] is gone in here at Goodison Park, in what could have been the most ferocious atmospheres for many a year in a hostile environment, and he looked class,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“The biggest compliment I can pay him, and it hurts to say this, I hope people can take this in the right spirit… he looked like a Manchester City player.
“Honestly, I was watching him and thinking, ‘that is a player that Pep Guardiola will be looking at and thinking, ‘I want him in my midfield, that is what my midfield players do’.”
