Interested groups are seeking a speedy resolution to the case of a medical doctor accused of beating up his wife and leaving her with a broken neck.

On September 27, 2023, Dr. Olubiyi Olaolu Abidemi, the Chief Medical Director of Ikere Specialist Hospital, went viral following allegations that he beat up his wife for allegedly refusing to take care of his pregnant mistress.

It was alleged that the altercation happened on September 14, 2023, at the couple’s residence located within St. David Hospital compound in Ifaki-Ekiti.

Photos of his injured wife Dr. (Mrs) Olubiyi Adenike hospitalized at the Accident and Emergency ward of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital were shared across social media platforms and this elicited outrage as netizens called for justice for Mrs Adenike, who is an Associate Professor in the Statistics Department at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.

He was charged to the Magistrate Court, Ado-Ekiti on October 2, 2023.

Since then, the case has been adjourned multiple times, allegedly without good reason.

The case was adjourned from Oct. 31, 2023, to Dec. 14, 2023, and further adjourned to Jan. 26, 2024.

Advocacy groups have now expressed concern that the case is about to be swept under the carpet, while also pointing out that justice delayed is justice denied.

They added that they suspect foul play in the matter and they called for justice to be served speedily, by all means.
