Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has included three youngsters in the squad that travelled to face FC Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
The Champions League offers 12 spots on the bench, unlike nine in the Premier League.
This has now created opportunities for fringe members of the squad.
The absence of Jurrien Timber due to injury, along with potential absentees like Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Takehiro Tomiyasu, means those spots could end up falling to youth players instead.
Neither Jesus, Zinchenko, nor Tomiyasu travelled with the team.
Three youth players that have made the trip are Ethan Nwaneri, James Sweet, and Ayden Heaven, all of whom could be seen with the squad in videos posted by fans at the airport in Porto.
