Grammy award-winning pop sensation Tyla has made the heartbreaking announcement of canceling her much-anticipated musical tour across North America, the UK, and Europe.
The decision comes as the artist grapples with a severe injury that has worsened over the past year, despite consultations with medical professionals.
In a candid statement shared on her social media timeline, Tyla revealed the extent of her struggle, expressing her frustration with the debilitating pain and the severity of her condition.
She disclosed, “For the past year, I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has worsened. I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes but the pain has only become more agonising, as has the severity of the situation.”
Acknowledging the disappointment of her fans, Tyla emphasized the paramount importance of prioritizing her long-term health and safety.
She lamented the necessity of canceling the tour, stating, “Continuing festival or tour dates would jeopardise my long-term health and safety.”
Despite the setback, Tyla expressed gratitude to her loyal followers for their unwavering support and reassured them of her determination to return to the stage.
She conveyed her hope of resuming performances by the summer, promising to deliver a spectacular show once she has fully recovered.
Tyla’s meteoric rise to fame, fueled by the success of her hit single “Water,” garnered attention from renowned artists such as rapper Travis Scott and producer Marshmello, both of whom remixed the chart-topping track.
Reflecting on the unexpected global acclaim, Tyla shared, “Initially I didn’t want to remix ‘Water’ because I thought the song is so strong… People don’t know it’s South African, it’s amapiano, it’s log drum. I feel the sound is going to take the world by storm.”
With her unique blend of amapiano-infused pop music, Tyla has become a beacon of inspiration for African artists and a symbol of pride for her native South Africa.
Despite the challenges she currently faces, Tyla remains optimistic about the future, expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming support and the opportunity to represent her homeland on the global stage.
