Arsenal legend, Paul Merson believes that Chelsea forward, Raheem Sterling will be left out of the England squad for Euro 2024.
As the team prepares for the upcoming international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, several new players, including Kobbie Mainoo, Anthony Gordon, and Jarrad Branthwaite, have been called up by manager Gareth Southgate.
However, a few notable players, such as Ben White, were left out of the squad.
Sterling, who had been a crucial player for the Three Lions in the past, has also been omitted.
Merson suggests that Sterling’s absence is a result of his recent performance, and it is difficult to make a case for him being included in the squad.
“Euro 2024 has gone for Raheem Sterling now,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“When Sterling’s hot, he’s unplayable and he turns up in big tournaments.
“I don’t know if Southgate has made his mind up on him but I don’t see him at the Euros. It’s hard to make a case for him after the weekend.”
