The Delta state police command have arrested members of a syndicate who specialize in stealing the phones of unsuspecting tricycle passengers in Asaba, the state capital.
In a statement release, SP Bright Edafe, spokesperson of the command, said on March 25 at about 6.15pm, one Ezeugwu Akanso ‘m’ reported at ‘A’ division Asaba that on the same date at about 5pm, he boarded a commercial tricycle with Reg no. GWK 758 VC with Delta State code no. 12335B at Konwea Plaza Nnebisi Road Asaba to Okpanam Road Asaba. He further stated that upon noticing that his phone had been stolen, he raised an alarm which necessitated sympathizers to join him and chase the suspects who were apprehended.
‘’The suspects, one Collins Akpinoba ‘m’ age 27yrs conspired with one David Paulson ‘m’ age 38yrs were immediately handed over to the Police. Preliminary investigation revealed that both suspects specialize in robbing unsuspecting passengers and some of their victims have identified them. Investigation is ongoing.” Edafe said
In another development, on March 27, at about 6pm, Anti-Crime patrol team Agbor division while on stop and search operation, intercepted one John Chikwuji ‘m’ aged 25yrs a native of Ekuku-Agbor going from Agbor to Ekuku-Agbor community. Edafe said when the suspect was subjected to a search, one Beretta pistol was recovered. Investigation is ongoing.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, HAS reiterated that fighting criminals is the primary goal of the Command. He warns all criminals to refrain from illegal activities, and if they fail to do so, they will face the full might of the law. He further assures that the command is making every effort to address the severe social challenges and detrimental impacts of violent crimes.
