The Carabao Cup is set to introduce changes to the competition from next season.
A seeding system is expected to come into place, in what is a direct reply to controversial changes made to the Champions League and the FA Cup.
The alterations will see clubs in European competitions given ranks and kept apart in the early rounds.
That means fixtures between the big clubs could be very limited in the early rounds.
Also, the third round of the competition will be staggered over a fortnight in an effort to ease fixture congestion.
According to The Telegraph, the changes come in the face of changes to both the FA Cup and Champions League.
Each Champions League side will now play an extra two group games as part of a whole competition league table. Meanwhile, fixtures will also run all the way up until January, as opposed to early December.
