Manchester City are desperate to tie Erling Haaland down to a new contract.
Haaland has enjoyed two successful seasons in the Premier League, winning back-to-back titles at the Etihad since arriving in a £51million deal from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.
The Norway international still has three years left on his contract.
But a clause in the deal with City, which allows Haaland to join any club outside England for £175million, has kicked in this summer.
Haaland’s buy-out fee will now drop in each of the remaining three seasons left on his deal, according to the UK Mirror.
City are already preparing for life without manager Pep Guardiola in the event that the Catalan decides not to sign a contract extension and ends his trophy-laden nine-year reign when his current deal runs out next summer.
