Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has advised England manager Gareth Southgate to build his team around Manchester City’s Phil Foden instead of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham as the Euro 2024 draws closer.
Foden was named the English Premier League Player of the Year after an impressive performance for Pep Guardiola’s side last season.
The 24-year-old netted 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 53 matches across competitions for City.
“Jude Bellingham is great, but when you have a player like Phil Foden in the middle, you have to build the England team around him,” Rooney, who is currently the manager of Plymouth Argyle, told Channel 4.
This is coming following England’s recent friendly 1-0 defeat against Iceland.
