Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has unveiled his starting lineup for England’s Euro 2024 opener against Serbia on Sunday.
Rooney notably left out Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher, along with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Speaking on The Overlap, Rooney confirmed Jordan Pickford as his top choice in goal, likening the Everton keeper’s importance to that of striker Harry Kane, whom he selected to lead the attack.
The defensive lineup includes Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier as full-backs, with Marc Guehi and John Stones as centre-backs, though Stones’ participation is uncertain due to a recent illness.
In midfield, Rooney opted for Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in deeper roles, with Phil Foden positioned as an attacking midfielder.
Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon will operate on the wings, supporting Kane at the forefront.
