A High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced one Ojo Ayegbusi to life imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl.
The defendant, who committed the offence on November 11, 2020, at Ikole Ekiti, was charged with the offence of rape.
The charge read; “The innocent survivor (victim) of the rape was coming from school when she was accosted by the defendant who lured her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.
“She could not tell anybody of her nasty experience, but her father found out when the girl was rushed to hospital after she collapsed at home and blood was gushing out of her private parts.”
Consequently, the defendant was arrested and arraigned in court.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Ekiti State, Julius Ajibare, said, “The offence of rape is contrary to Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap.C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”
Ajibare, who prosecuted the case for Ekiti State, called five witnesses and tendered three exhibits in support of his case.
The defendant, who spoke through his counsel, E O. Sunmonu, gave evidence in his defence and called one witness.
In the judgment, Justice John Adeyeye held that “the prosecution proved the offence of rape against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.”
The court consequently convicted the defendant and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
