Former Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos, has ruled himself out of contention for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
Kroos admits that he would have been a favourite if Germany had won Euro 2024.
The 34-year-old retired from football this summer, after helping Real win the LaLiga and Champions League titles.
He also played in the European Championships where they crashed out in the quarter-final against Spain.
Kroos said: “Ballon d’Or? Maybe if we won the Euro, they’d be a chance.
“But this is not a title I have been striving for. And that has nothing to do with the fact that I never won it.
“There were often world footballers in my team: Cristiano Ronaldo, Modrić, Benzema who won it.”
