A Nigerian doctor, Ify, has decried the spate at which families ‘deceive’ women into getting married to their mentally unstable brothers.

In a post shared on X, Dr Ify recounted an incident in her consulting room where a wife was crying, oblivious to her husband’s mental illness. She said the family members of the man were pushing her to be with the man so they could be free from all the challenges associated with his illness.

According to her, most families with male mentally unstable patients push for them to get married so as to preserve their names.
