Arsenal have contacted about “10 wide players” as manager Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad before the transfer deadline.
The Gunners have only added Riccardo Calafiori this summer, but a deal for Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino is all but completed.
However, Arteta remains active in the market, as he wants to add at least one more forward.
Athletic Club’s Nico Williams has been the major target, but the Spain international is set to stay with the Basque club for another season and is said to prefer a move to Barcelona next summer.
While Williams would have been a signing to start regularly for Arteta’s side, the Gunners are now looking towards a lower-profile, less costly winger to sign as a squad player, who would play a role similar to the one Leandro Trossard has enjoyed for the last year and a half.
